Are you eligible for Nova Scotia Express Entry if you didn’t study in Nova Scotia?
It depends! If you used a Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) from studies outside
Nova Scotia, your work experience won’t count. But if you’ve worked in NS on an
LMIA-based work permit or a spousal open work permit, you do qualify.
What is the Nova Scotia Experience: Express Entry?
It’s a sub-stream of the Nova Scotia Nominee Program (NSNP) designed for skilled
workers who have:
- At least one year of full-time (or equivalent part-time) skilled work in Nova Scotia
within the past three years in NOC TEER 0, 1, 2, or 3 occupations. - Legal authorization to work in Nova Scotia during that period—not via a PGWP from
studies outside NS - A registered Express Entry profile with IRCC.
- Age between 21 and 55, plus a Canadian high school credential (or foreign
equivalent with ECA). - Language proficiency: CLB 7 for Teer 0,and 1 or CLB 5 for Teer 2 or 3.
- Intent to settle in Nova Scotia, and proof of funds to support your family .
Why Choose This Stream? - Speed: A provincial nomination adds 600 CRS points to your Express Entry
profile—almost ensures an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residence . - Accessibility: No employer job offer or LMIA needed—just proof of skilled work
experience. - Flexibility: Stream is open year-round; applications are accepted both from EE pool
and direct to NS immigration.
